与前作相比，主要剧情仅在水门桥一个场景，仍旧是毫不喘息的战争场面，熟悉的大段夜战以及林超贤式满屏轰炸。在观众对于夜战场面产生审美疲劳之时，徐老怪通过感官刺激将我们拉回荧幕。人物塑造与前作相比进步了不少，每个重要角色在前作立下的死亡flag都在本作应验，他们在本作的动作都在为其结局埋下伏笔：吴京悼念雷公在雪地里点烟，最后风过烟倒，预兆着自己燃烧到最后的结局；朱亚文对女儿的回忆杀；韩东君对千玺的临别话语，李晨从莽撞到最后为吸引火力而牺牲，死亡伴随着角色的转变，为唯一留下的伍万里铺路。本作的故事是一个“轮回”，故事开始：七连赶到水门桥时，九连几近团灭；故事结束：增援部队赶到时，七连仅剩下千玺。观后，我对不间断轰炸产生了不适，细想，真正的历史、我们能够展现出的战争精神，除了特效之外，就仅此而已了么？

除了刚被卖进妓院的场景是真实的印度，其他时间的布景都干净整洁的不真实…像极了甘谷拜刚出场的那一身白衣，出淤泥而不染的意象跃然屏幕，连天空也总是蓝得像童话，或许就是在宣示，这个现实没法美好…但还是应该还手，应该战斗，应该拼尽全力，活出尊严和希望。最喜欢甘谷拜的两段“打戏”，第一次是在电影院门口，第二次是在家门口，话不多说直接上手，不需要忍耐，因为已经出让了太多。
