《象棋的故事》告诉我们——最残忍的刑罚并不是对肉体惨绝人寰的摧残，而是让一个人明白什么是彻彻底底的孤独。就如同你站在月球上遥望远方那个水蓝色的星球，而张目四顾只有沉寂一片的惨白。这种孤独能给人最难以预测的成长。Ｂ博士与自己对弈的目的是超越了所有功利的。他只为了证明自己还活着，象棋是他在那个没有时间的空间里能够抓住的唯一东西，这种反人类的成长让天才也为之失色，如果我们不去理会这部作品的批判性，那么还有一个直击我们灵魂的问题，真理是否就藏在无尽的痛苦之中？
