The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 我们需要怎样的性教育？记得前几天看知乎讨论为啥那么多渣男，渣女却很少，很大原因是大部分女性性不觉醒，如果女性和男性一样，从生物本能来说大家都是渣男渣女。说回电影，女性性觉醒本质上还是一种女权的宣扬，它让我们变回人，而不是被定义的“女性”。去被人理解，自我接受，面对天性欲望，这些才能真正能让一个人自信，并且无所畏惧。而自爱，才是爱世界的前提。电影过于理想化，但能够互相抚慰的孤独灵魂的对话真的美好。最后，感谢那些生命中遇见的人，正是因为在与他们的交流中，我们看到了真实的自己，并接纳不完美的自我，成为更好的自己。

很欧洲的片子，什么题材都要立意深刻，上价值。虽然……但还是被退休年龄段的老太与90后年轻小鲜肉的这对30多岁年龄差的大尺度震惊到了
小而固定的空间，两个陌生男女由性爱进入到情感，这两个都是极度私密的领域，主要依靠对白和表演，结构上以男女的关系变化为主线，完整的四次会面，从第一次的紧绷到逐渐展开，表象的性爱被隐藏，展开的是内心。两个陌生的男女开始的性爱任务，其中一个很年轻，一个至暮年，明明可以发展出很多戏剧故事，但偏偏任何强情节都没有，只在房间里不断对话，说很多看似无关紧要的事情，观察身体，而这竟让我看下去了，这样的叙事让我感到好奇，也让我思考其中核心是什么？
优雅、梦幻、纯粹。这是日暮西山之际的富贵体验，也是极致理想的愉悦。男主的从容不迫和女主的左顾右盼在一开始就相当抓人。探讨的话题深度和真实性令人感慨万千，极具话题的切入点，高雅的表演，密集的台词和循序渐进的性爱模式引人入胜。很好看。

这种封闭空间全靠对话推进的少数人的舞台剧型电影，英国人玩的最溜。无论套用什么样的大环境和目的，还是需要靠人物关系推动剧情进展的。两代人观念的碰撞与和解，理解与自省才能达到有效交流。Emma Thompson真的是从年轻美到老，尤其第四段，我爱她布满皱纹的容颜和镜前的全裸
Emma Thompson演得太好了，非常真诚，太让人感动了。剧本是一个典型的三幕式结构，工整、清晰，在目前动不动两个半小时长的大片中，显得十分灵动。 但最重要的是它对女性情欲的探索和自我成长，sex pleasure is a powerful thing. 最后的设计，虽然predictable，但是很妙，性愉悦从来不是谁给的，而是自我发现和自我解放。 关于边界/真实与虚假的探讨也很有启发性，good luck to 每一个在探索的人。
虽然是灾难让人们又一次共筑巴别塔，但是希望灾难过后，我们仍能如此……
四次见面，对性不同形式的尝试且得到的正常反馈，随之内心不断改变对性想法，又能让身体更寻常地将性作为一件愉悦事，它是一个渐变的过程。去交流快乐的地方，不舒服的地方，以及渴望的时刻等，做爱应该是是生活中不需要去掩饰和假装的真实时刻，热烈的温度，交织的汗水，在欲望的海洋里畅游，哪怕你其实不会游泳/不过男主过于完美的设置，以及结尾女主跟当年的学生承认，都其实有点理想化。

完全的放下外界对你的看法、你对外界的看法，是很难很难的。完全看不出是表演，没有一处做作。最后一次见面的两次露胸不像同一个人。谁说是喜剧？
啊我还是想看现场。。。明年能重新在国内巡演吗
或许从另一个方面解读，是否将自己全盘托出 消除隔阂 是能否获得极致的性爱体验的原因之一?
之前看盗摄版从头哭到尾 今天再看官摄反而有点看不进去了（虽然曲子一响还是会哭）可能对我来说是一次性用的煽情片子…
欢快又充满力量的歌舞片，对人性有力的赞颂。虽然来自远方，但彼此没有距离。最后演奏家集体演奏的《Screech Out》真的太嗨了。
