The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 2月25号终于看了一直想看的这部电影，既有笑点，又有泪点，实力派演员的表演朴素又不简单的镜头刻画出真实的生活，蓝鸿春导演不愧是潮汕电影崛起的领军人！
2022.01.21 更多地可视为潮汕民俗片，介绍本地的传统生活。正如很多人说的，对于母亲为何排斥外地媳妇，为何又接受她离过婚，并没有交待清楚。特别是在2022当下很难想象外地媳妇这个话题还会被拍成潮汕电影，而且这位妈妈看起来也是通情达理，如果是婵真大妈倒是有可能。当时在考虑如果再加上一个宗教信仰不一样的问题，那这电影真是把所有潮汕婚配问题都踩中，还好没有。
有种好看的电影就是贵在真实，感情真实，人物真实。
先码后评。有种央视6高清电影的质感，但潮汕的人情味拍得很出彩。
由《爸，我一定行！》原班人马拍摄的《带你去见我妈》，很原汁原味的潮汕方言电影，非常亲切，很多爆笑梗，整部片子有笑有泪，演员们表达自然流露非常真实，沉浸感十足，全程看得津津有味、笑得前仰后合、哭得稀里哗啦！一定要看，推荐！

作为一个潮汕人，有被戳到，看得又哭又笑。外省人、30+岁、离异随便一个因素在潮汕妈妈眼里都是no，结局有点理想化了啊～
语言不通的交流不通带来的喜感。
终于看完这部了，一直想看来着，毕竟整天在大厅看到宣传片，虽然片名有点说不出的烂片感觉，不过好在电影不让人失望。演员都演的很棒，这个爸洗澡时和舅父与女友都好搞笑，他妈和眼镜邻居大姐演技超棒，喜欢水鸡兄算命那，水鸡算命这个梗好。这部拍的真好，节奏合适，镜头比上部进步很大，后面那段杭州第一人称视角手机感切的也很合理。那几首插曲不错，玩具船长那段《兄台,你近来好吗?》好久没听了，要不是以前听过还以为是为这部电影作的哈哈哈。
你不看我不看，导演啥时候能出圈。素人演员非常亲切可爱，看导演说有些台词是演员用自己的语言发挥的，虽然听不懂潮汕话也能感到自然。机场追了人却只是送了特产笑死人了，套路中的小逆反加分。

很像，女主角也和她很像，真好。
包场了。开始还担心全程听不懂会不会困，但还是很好笑很温馨很好哭的啊
方言听不懂，但是却不影响观影，有些时候需要的真实状态反而更容易让人入戏。而不是强行的去改变它，让它迎合更多人。
有点感人但不多。这个剧情的模板很熟悉，把矛盾架在潮汕文化习俗中很巧妙（当然也确实是源于创作者的真实背景）。而越南电影《再见妈妈》则是把类似套路用在了LGBT的出柜矛盾中。
味道过于纯正！很完整的情节片，完全听不懂潮汕话的人也能有乐趣。对于想了解潮汕风土人情的人来说更是很值得一看，这就是现当代的潮阳风味。恰好，对于潮阳人来说，当然更是难得，有真，本人口音的片子。我们熟悉的演员和主持人，我们熟悉的妈妈的讲话八卦方式。啊潮阳人认证，这个味道醇。
看完电影 很想找个周末再去潮汕逛逛🥳
本以为机场送行就是故事结局，心想挺好的，没想到接下来导演来了一手“强行俗套”的戏法，成功把电影的层次拉低了一层。结局虽让我失望，但也不可谓不合理或者不可接受，只是个人的想法是我不能想象像女主角这样优秀的女性应该为了任何一个男人去如此大费周章地为了融入对方家庭去妥协甚至需要服从于一些封建成规来讨丈母娘喜欢。或许导演应该在现实生活中多接触一些这样的女性，塑造角色形象绝不仅仅是坐在办公桌前握着笔杆子抓耳挠腮那么简单。不管是男人还是女人，离过婚绝不代表TA从此在情场就低人一头。低成本国产家庭片其实也不好计较太多，很“平民”的作品，从演职员到角色塑造的创作都是努力在接地气。看得出导演算是有些有趣的想法，而且致敬王家卫的戏很幽默，就是整体水平还太嫩。
语言蕴含着很多气息，方言电影更有味道。本土演员更生动，用得好。
