The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 很不错的剧情，节奏和画面都很舒服，是犯罪悬疑片里的上乘。
感觉电影想告诉你什么，可是并没告诉我什么；电影的整个色调想反映什么，可是我也没反应过来到底是什么。比普通大电影还是好点的。

这片子好美好美 披着悬疑片皮的文艺片 剧情结构好像是有点问题 但是还是很好看的
文艺片式的悬疑片，作为小成本电影已经非常好啦，节奏很细腻，灰调的光影，私心非常喜欢这种连接陈年旧案的故事
氛围感节奏感都很棒，剧情其实也可以，可惜底牌太明.
一直无法理解刚开始的目击证人是如何识别凶手照片的，识别后，画师又也怎么能联系上林音的。如果是林音，不就否定了自己的画？
就…看个氛围？本人有严重的乡县情结，打光布景和镜头色彩挺有内味儿的
画面，意境，摄影都很有艺术性，只是这个单薄的故事多少有点配不上这点艺术性了。国产片还是这么绞尽脑汁地探究人性中最隐秘的角落，也就别怪审查这么严格了。然后评论里面把去那些逻辑上说不过去的点就直接全归结于「为了过审」真是让人哭笑不得。
和天龙八部一样全员悲剧人物。不足地方很多但非常值得鼓励，绝大多数台词很深刻，都可以当书看了。
还可以，值得支持一下的，有点点拖沓。配音处理的不好，总感觉想在录影棚而不是现场，让人出戏
剧情能看出来狠下了番功夫，也加入了导演对文艺的追求，就是女主二人的身份互换弱逻辑，另，几个男角色不是很喜欢，值得翻拍
三星半吧，氛围营造的很好，南方的隐喻和潮湿看的我风湿都要犯了。推理逻辑基本在线，日本有个推理小说《绝叫》，本片结局与其相似。整体来说不错~
有那么点《杀人回忆》的样子和腔调，但导演功力还是差了不止一口气。

喜欢里面的念白和台词，无论是警方队长、画像师还是舞蹈团的女孩们，每一个人都在阐释时代之下的个人选择。
有些片子是很良心的，在电影开始前十几二十分钟他就会用剧情演技等各种手段对你委婉表示：快逃！远山淡影就是这样一部电影。
